How DPD approval was secured
We believe that it's important for all of our customers to understand exactly what DPD approval entails so that you can make the right choices for your business. Here’s the step-by-step:
Drop test
- Wine bottles were packed into our PU12X twelve-bottle Pulpsafe packaging solution which includes an outer box and inner sleeves, before being sealed with industry-standard tape.
- The parcel is then dropped onto concrete from a height of one metre. The process is completed several times to make sure each side of the box (base included), plus its top and bottom corners, remain intact.
- The final and probably most difficult part of the test (bearing in mind the container has already been dropped multiple times), is the “trip simulation”. This calls for the item to be thrown from a height of one metre, landing on a concrete floor more than two metres away from the starting point.
- Once ALL of these assessments have been made in sequence, the parcel is opened and inspected for any damage. A pass is only considered if there have been zero breakages to the bottles inside.
- While this may sound pretty stringent, the testing process doesn’t end there. Approval can only be granted once the packaging has been tested in the ‘real world’ and strictly within the DPD network.
Transportation test
With the help of one of our esteemed customers, 2,400 of our PU12X twelve-bottle Pulpsafe cases were transported throughout the country over a four-week period to monitor the outcome.
Whilst we were confident in the product, we were nonetheless delighted to receive confirmation that out of the entire shipment, ZERO damage or breakages were recorded. On that happy note, DPD confirmed they would approve PU12X, fully satisfied that this packaging solution passed all the requirements with flying colours!
